This week, the first ever “Heritage Parade” was held in The Villages at Spanish Springs.
The parade combines/replaces the Octoberfest and Italian-American parades that had been held in the past.
Years ago, the separate parades were run by the The Villages Entertainment Department, before being cut from the lineup in 2013.
Since that time they have been run by resident volunteers and the thinking is that by combining the two parades into one big one it would provide efficiencies of scale resulting in a better all around event.

In other news…
Raise your hand if you are ready for the midterm elections to be over. I like to say that the next candidate that calls my house, I'm voting for the other guy (or gal). Needless to say the person I am voting for changes daily 😉
In this video, CNBC's John Harwood sits down with residents of The Villages to get their take on the president and the 2018 midterm elections.
Last but not least, a Villager caused quite a bit of excitement this week behind my condo when the plane he was piloting ran out of gas and he decided to put it down in the ocean to avoid hitting anyone on the beach.
I watched the whole thing unfold from my living room, and I was very surprised (to say the least) when I heard on the news that night that the pilot was a resident of The Villages.
Just glad that he made it through and was able to avoid injuring anybody on the beach.
