You might have seen on the news this week that notorious Boston gangster James “Whitey” Bulger was killed in a West Virginia prison shortly after being transferred there.
What you may not know is that his previous place of residence before being transferred there was Federal Correction Complex Coleman, which is located here in Sumter County, right next to the Village of Fenney.
A few years ago the Orlando Sentinel ran an article on some of the more famous inmates imprisoned there, which you can read right here.
There have been a few threads about the prison's proximity to The Villages that you can read here and here (this last one has some pics).
Pretty interesting stuff!
In other news…
Earlier this year I wrote that self-driving taxis were coming to The Villages. After a few extra months to beef up sensor technology and to ensure the highest level of passenger safety, Voyage Auto is ready to begin testing with a handful of volunteers in the Village of Virginia Trace, and they expect to expand from there.
If you're reading this the day it was published (Friday, Nov. 2, 2018) you have until this Sunday to catch the Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall. Here is a video of the wall's arrival:
