County officials are blaming a number of recent holes that many people thought were actual sinkholes on failing stormwater pipes.
This is something that one of my readers, a retired engineering contractor specializing in underground work, had a hunch about and brought to my attention month's ago and I shared his thoughts with readers of my monthly newsletter.
Here's an excerpt of what he wrote:
“What you see may not really be a ‘sinkhole’. It may be a construction failure due to the grading, fill, and compaction after installing the storm drains.”
According to this latest development, it sounds like he could be spot on. [Villages-News]

Villagers turned out this week to vote in the Florida Primary Elections, but they didn't turn out for the developer's choice for GOP Governor candidate.
Ron DeSantis, who has the endorsement of Donald Trump, beat Adam Putnam by a wide margin in every Villages voting precinct, and went on the win the primary election.
Interestingly, on the Democrat side, Villagers seemed to support Gwen Graham, but she ultimately lost the Democratic Primary to Andrew Gillum, who is currently the mayor of Tallahassee. [Villages-News]
The Sharon is without a doubt the newest, most advanced performing arts venue in The Villages, but the Savannah Center is loved by many and hosts a number of performances every year.
For the last few years it began to feel a little “dated” but it just got an upgrade with all new sound system and lights. [The Villages Daily Sun]
