According to the National Chicken Council, American’s are expected to eat 1.25 BILLION chicken wings on Super Bowl Sunday.
I know I’ll definitely have my fair share of that total.
We took to Facebook recently to ask our fans about the best places for wings in The Villages.
Here were the Top 5 responses:
Beef “O” Brady’s
Beef “O” Brady’s was the runaway favorite among those who responded to our poll.
For the uninitiated, “Beef’s” as it is affectionately known is a very popular Florida-based chain of neighborhood sports pubs and grills.
Beef’s offer boneless and traditional wings in quantities of 8, 12, 18, and 25, but larger quantities are available.
They are known for their famous wing sauces, which include…in order of heat, lowest to highest…Garlic Parmesan, Honey BBQ, Teriyaki, Mile, Sweet Jalapeño, Beef’s Signature Buffalo, Medium, Spicy Garlic, Hot, Mango Habanero, Extra Hot, and Nuclear.
Proceed with caution on those last few!
They also have dry rubs available including Chef Paul Prudhomme’s Blackened Seasoning and a Lemon Pepper Dry Rub.
You’ll find Beef “O” Brady’s locations at Colony Plaza, Southern Trace Plaza and Mulberry Grove Plaza, convenient no matter what part of The Villages you live in.
Gators Dockside
Gators Dockside is a favorite among Villagers, and apparently they have some great wings too.
They’ve long been a fixture at Spanish Springs and last year they opened a 2nd location in Brownwood.
At Gators Dockside ordering wings is as easy as 1, 2, 3.
First you choose your style. You’ve got four options here: grilled, traditional buffalo, breaded, or boneless.
Next, you choose how many you want…6, 10 or 50.
Last but not least you choose your sauce.
Your options are Hot Sauce, Scooter, Honey Mustard, Parmesan Garlic, Caribbean Jerk, Chipotle Honey BBQ, Honey Garlic, Hot Teriyaki, Lemon Pepper, Traditional, Medium BBQ, 3 Pepper Suicide, Mild BBQ, Teriyaki, Thai Peanut, Sweet Thai Chili, and Cajun Butter BBQ.
Legends Cafe
Right up there with Gator’s Dockside as far as number of votes from our readers is Legends Cafe, located just off the reservation in Fruitland Park on US Hwy 441 directly across from Bill Bryan Chrysler/Jeep/Dodge and ACE Hardware. It’s the only round building in the area, so you can’t miss it.
Legends asks customers to allow up to 20 minutes for your freshly prepared jumbo wings to fully cook.
According to their menu, their signature sauces include:
Texan – a thick, hearty honey smoked BBQ sauce
Sesame Teriyaki – a sweet soy with ginger & honey, topped with sesame seeds
Buttery Garlic – a garlic butter sauce topped with grated Parmesan
Mild – a sweet & savory sauce
Classic Buffalo – traditional spicy sauce direct from the chicken wing capital
Golden – our classic buffalo sauce with spicy mustard
Bam Bam – our ‘new' kickin' wing sauce
Medium – a sweet & spicy sauce
Garlic Parmesan – a spicy pepper & garlic sauce topped with grated Parmesian
Red Chili Pepper – starts sweet & ends with heat
Explosive – an impressive habanero sauce with extreme heat
RJ Gators
Located at Lake Sumter Landing, RJ Gators offers wings in quantities of 10, 20, and 50 made with your choice of RJ’s sauces including Mild, Medium, Hot, Clear the Sinuses, Honey Teriyaki, Honey Mustard, BBQ and more.
Sonny’s BBQ
Sonny’s has long been known as a BBQ favorite, but if you’ve seen their TV commercials you might have noticed that they are putting more effort into their wings the last few years.
Sonny’s wings are available in flavors like Sweet, Sizzling’ Sweet, Smoking’ and Dry-Rubbed.
One reader said to be sure to try the smoked wings with white sauce pictured above. Sonny’s is located at Lake Sumter Landing.
Honorable Mentions
There were a few places like City Fire (Lake Sumter Landing and Brownwood), O'Shucks (Wildwood) and Ramshackle Cafe (Leesburg) that each received a few votes but not enough to crack the top 5.
