You may not have set foot in a lecture hall recently, but that doesn’t mean you can’t still revel in the glory of your school’s proud traditions, especially during fall and college football season.
Whether you used to paint yourself up in the Buckeye State (OH-IO!) or do the chomp down in Gainesville, there’s a place in The Villages where you can represent your colors.
Here’s a brief rundown of the recent goings-on of alumni groups in The Villages and some of their upcoming activities that you can join in on:
University of Florida
Members of the Village Gator Social Club meet up on weekends at Gator’s Dockside at Brownwood to watch their team battle the SEC’s meanest down in the swamp.
On October 2nd, feel free to come by Seabreeze Recretional Center for a night of seasonal fun at the Gator Social and Pumpkin Carving Contest.
(Bring your own pumpkin, carving tools and beer.)
While some members make the short 1 hour and 10 minute drive to Gainesville for every home game, on October 18th the Village Gator Club as a whole will converge on Gainesville for UF’s homecoming game against Missouri.
Indiana University
On August 29th, the IU Club celebrated its 1st Anniversary as an officially approved club by showing up in great spirits at a College Colors Day event in Spanish Springs Town Square.
The previous week, members of the IU Club participated in a food drive at Lake Sumter Landing that pitted the various alumni clubs against each other to raise awareness for College Colors Day.
Michigan State University
The Michigan State University Alumni Club boasts more than 200 members, and they host a number of activities and game watches throughout The Villages.
On October 5th, teams from the MSU Alumni Club and the Penn State Tri County Chapter of Central Florida will face off in the 7th Annual Michigan State/Penn State Golf Tournament at Cane Garden Country Club.
Teams of four golfers will compete for the Village Land Grant Trophy, and the tournament will be followed by door prizes and dinner on the Cane Garden Patio.
You can find more information about registering and scheduling on the website linked to above.
Notre Dame University
In order to make a difference in its community, the Notre Dame Club of the Villages focuses on and lives by the Six C’s: Camaraderie, Catholic/Christian Spirituality, Current Students, Community Service, Continuing Education and Communications.
Along with weekly game watches at McCall’s Tavern and participating in the annual Golf Cart Parade, Irish alums look forward every year to their ND Celebration Dinner.
This year’s dinner will take place on October 16th at the Savannah Center.
Ohio State University
The Tri County OSU Alumnus Club gathers each Saturday at the Pub at the Bowl to root on the Buckeyes against the rest of the Big 10.
On October 25th, many of the clubs 400 members will be throwing it back to the grade school days and donning their favorite comfy sleepwear for a Beat Penn State Pajama Party.
Bring along any extra pajamas you’d like to donate to the local homeless shelter.
Penn State University
The Penn State Tri County Chapter of Central Florida comes together every Saturday at McCall’s Tavern in Spanish Springs to “bear witness to the Nittany Lions.”
Along with the 7th Annual rival golf tournament vs. Michigan State alumni on October 5th, the Villages’ Penn State Alumni Club will be hosting Trivia Night at McCall’s Tavern on November 2nd for teams of up to eight players.
If you’re in the area and you bleed blue and white, come on over for a few drinks and some laughs.
Virginia Tech
Longtime fans of the Virginia Tech football team who made it out to Gator’s Dockside were treated to a special Saturday night in early September when the Hokies upset no. 6 Ohio State.
In addition to weekly game watches, The Villages chapter of Virginia Tech Alumni will be hosting a golfing and social event at the Himalayan Putting Green at Palmer Legends Country Club on October 3rd.
University of Wisconsin
The On Wisconsin Club had a great turnout for its Labor Day Golf Outing. Photos of the beautiful day can be found on the club website.
Additionally, the On Wisconsin Club is currently accepting entries for a new logo contest. If you are interested, guidelines for the contest, which will end on November 30th, can be found on their website.
