Last weekend was the Strawberry Festival at Brownwood Paddock Square. If you think a strawberry festival in a retirement community sounds pretty boring, think again! This video from the Pryde of The Villages YouTube channel gives you a closer look at all the excitement:
Here’s what else I’m reading and watching this week:
Usually about two or three times a year, you’ll see a big national newspaper or television show do a story on The Villages, typically spouting some half truths and painting a very one-sided picture of residents and the community. This time the honor goes to The New York Times:
- The ‘Disney’ for Boomers Puts Hedonism on Full Display (The New York Times)
Note: While this is a subscribers only article, because I am a NYT subscriber I get a handful of articles that I can “gift” to others each month. You’re welcome 😉
Articles like the one I just shared above typically miss or gloss right over this aspect of The Villages:
- Residents combine fun with fundraising (The Villages Daily Sun)
If you are reading this newsletter on Saturday or Sunday, you should know that The Villages Balloon Festival is going on this weekend at The Villages Polo Club.
Speaking of which, I hope this one fixed their divot:
Another event going on this weekend is the Arnold Palmer Invitational. Wait… “what’s that have to do with The Villages?” you say:
- Villagers know who’s on top at Bay Hill (The Villages Daily Sun)
That’s all I’ve got for you this week! See you next time.
