According to a recent news report from WFTV Channel 9, dozens of Villages residents are grappling with unexpectedly high water bills, some charged for tens of thousands of gallons they claim not to have used.
Investigative efforts to uncover the cause have met with official silence.
Residents, like Marian Drummond and Pete Trendler, faced bills over $600 for water usage reportedly 50 times their normal consumption, without clear resolution or explanation from the Villages Community Development Districts.
It's not the first time a story has been done on this topic.
In 2024 another local news station did a similar story involving different residents facing a similar situation:
The issue has been brought up in the past on the TalkofTheVillages forum. Here's just one example.
The utility's response has been limited, with no official explanation provided to the affected residents or the media.

Hi!
We sold our house in Monarch Grove in July 2023. Lived there for 3 years. The house was a new construction.
Within a year, we got water bills that ranged from $250 to $500 for about 3 months.
We were told to check for bathroom leaks and we were not ever able to find anything wrong with the toilets or else.
The “issues” disappeared the same way that they started without a real explanation.
We figured that wasn’t our house but another reason. Our neighbors across the street had the same situation.

Our December bill was ridiculous. 50% higher than normal. We did NOT use anywhere near the amount claimed. Strangely the irrigation portion was close to normal.

We are also victims of an overly high bill.
