Movie Theaters in The Villages

by Ryan Erisman | Originally Published: August 22, 2013 | Updated On: March 25, 2021

One of the biggest selling points of The Villages is that there is an almost never-ending supply of live entertainment and activities. The constant promotion of sports, shopping, clubs, restaurants, and other group activities often leads to overlooking the little things like going to the movies.

That isn’t a problem though, because The Villages has three fantastic movie theaters, one in each town square. Each of The Villages theaters has eight screens and shows movies with show times starting at 10 AM through 7 PM on weeknights and later shows on weekends. Between the three theaters, you can almost always catch any new release that you are looking to see.

Each of the theaters offers a full array of movie concessions, including popcorn, candy, hot dogs, soda, and more. All of the theaters also offer early bird discounts for anyone, as well as anytime discounts for Villagers. You will likely decide to attend a theater based on what you would like to see, but each theater does offer a slightly different experience based on its location and decor.

Barnstorm Theater

Located in the heart of Brownwood Paddock Square, the Barnstorm Theater is the newest of the three movie theaters in The Villages. Following right in line with the Brownwood theme, this theater has the look of large barn that was pulled straight out of a midwestern town. With its dark red paint and bright white trim, the theater does a great job of taking you to another place before you even step inside.

Front of the Barnstorm Theater

One of the best aspects about the Barnstorm Theater is that it is located directly behind City Fire Restaurant. This makes for an excellent date night combination in Brownwood. Whether it’s dinner first and then a movie or a movie first followed by an evening nightcap, these two places go hand-in-hand for a romantic night out in The Villages.

Old Mill Playhouse

Of the three town squares, Lake Sumter Landing is the biggest and has the most scenic view. Modeled after a quaint seaside village, the entire area has a relaxed feel despite there being plenty to see and do. The Old Mill Playhouse blends right in with the scenery here, as it resembles a movie theater you might expect to find in a quaint seaside village. After undergoing a renovation, Old Mill reopened in 2021 with the addition of Lazy Mac’s Taco Shack and Tequila Bar.

There is plenty of shopping available in Lake Sumter Landing before show time, if that is what you are looking for. If you are more interested in a romantic date night, having dinner at the Lighthouse Point Bar & Grille is an excellent starting point. You can also take a boat tour of Lake Sumter if you have enough time before the show.

Rialto Theatre

The Rialto Theatre is located right on the corner of Main Street and Alonzo Avenue in Spanish Springs Town Square. This theater shares the southwestern look that you will find throughout Spanish Springs. The building has a stucco style facade with and old time billboard on the front overhang that displays the current movies being shown.

Being located in Spanish Springs makes this theatre the most flexible of the three. In addition to seeing a popular new movie, Villagers can also feel free to shop or eat before or after. There are so many options here that you might feel overwhelmed. For a relaxed, family style dinner before show time, you could check out Athens NY Restaurant, or for fun Karaoke after a movie you might stop by McCall’s Tavern.
