This week the topic on everyone’s mind is the sinkholes that have developed at the Moyer Recreation Center.
Here’s a video from one of the local news stations covering this story:
Longtime residents and/or readers of this website know that sinkholes are nothing new in The Villages. In fact, I have several pages in my book covering the topic in depth.
From what I’ve seen, they most commonly happen after long periods of little to no rain like we experienced here in April and May, followed by periods of heavy rain, like we’ve seen in June and so far in July.
Here are a few more articles and news reports on these particular holes:
Here’s what else I’m reading/watching this week:
At the halfway point of the year, The Villages is reportedly second in new home sales behind Lakewood Ranch, BUT there’s a catch.
First the numbers.
According to this new report Lakewood Ranch has sold 1,535 homes this year vs 838 new home sales at the midway point of 2020 (an 83% increase). Not too shabby.
The Villages is “estimated” to have sold 1,226 new homes so far this year.
Because The Villages does not share their mid-year sales numbers.
If anyone reading this with intimate knowledge would care to enlighten me as to what the number actually is, feel free to leave a comment down below 😉
Anyway, from what I’ve heard, the sales engine is running pretty good in The Villages so it would not surprise me to see The Villages come out on top by the end of the year.
Here’s the full list:
Last week I mentioned that a local church was joining the fight to allow little white crosses in yards in The Villages. This week, the Villagers for Trump group are joining in as well.
That’s all for this week!
